Internship | Scholarship Eligibility and Conditions

1. Eligibility and Conditions

Eligibility

a. Any student from the territory of the South Pacific Division.

b. A student currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree or diploma course.

c. A Commitment to uphold the standards of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

d. A student who will be entering the last half of their study program at the commencement of the internship.

e. A person who has the legal right to work in Australia i.e. Australian or New Zealand citizenship and/or a work permit.

Conditions

f. Applicants must maintain or exceed a minimum credit grade average across all subjects prior to and during the course of their Internship.

g. Once granted, any variation to the agreed study program must be approved by the Denominational Employers Scholarship Fund (The Fund) Committee to deem the changes acceptable to the employer.

h. Upon acceptance to an Internship, the candidate is classed as an employee of the relevant organisation and therefore subject to all terms and conditions of that organisation. that may apply under this agreement.

i. The appointment of an Internship does not guarantee an offer of full time employment post-graduation.

j. The applicant is to be supportive of a Seventh-day Adventist Christian lifestyle and values commensurate with the practices of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.

 

2. Employers Conditions

a. Because you will be classified as an employee, you will be entitled to many benefits and responsibilities that will be outlayed in this document.

b. You will be supplied with a job description so that you will know what is expected of you in the workplace.

c. Any changes to your internship program will need to be discussed with your supervisor and/or human resources representative as soon as possible.

d. As part of your internship you will be required to agree to a Learning Plan. This will layout your goals for this program and a plan for how they will be achieved. You need to ensure that you are working towards achieving these goals, so make sure you regularly review your learning plan with your supervisor.

 

3. Application Process

a. You will respond to the internship position of your choice as advertised and submit an application form as well as your resume.

b. Applications will be received by the Employment Promotions Officer and will be checked to ensure you pass all conditions and eligibilities listed in this document.

c. Screened applications will then be passed on to the relevant organisation for shortlisting.

d. If successful in this next stage, you will be notified of an interview date.

e. Offers will then be made to the successful applicants.

 

4. Remuneration

a. When accepted into an internship, you will be classed and treated as a permanent employee. Therefore you will be paid a wage according to the relevant organisations guidelines.

b. Because you are classed as an employee, you will be eligible for sick leave, holiday pay etc. But it also means that if there are major changes to the internship, you need to notify your employer with as much notice as possible.

 

5. Internship Length

a. The length of the internship will be outlined in the job advertisment and or job description.

b. There is a compulsory 2 week, full time, internship induction to be completed before you start 1st semester.

c. The amount of hours to be worked each week will be discussed and agreed upon between you and your supervisor.

 

6. Internship Withdrawal

a. If circumstances arise whereby you need to alter or even cancel the internship, you need to immediately discuss this with your employing supervisor.

b. Because you are classed as an employee, if you need to withdraw from the internship, you will need to give adequate notice to your employer.

 

7. Role of the Employment Promotions Officer

a. It is my role to ensure that this internship program runs as smooth as possible and that you get the maximum benefit from thisprogram.

b. I will initiate regular workplace visits (every 6-8 weeks) to ensure the internship is being effective for all parties involved.
