The School of Humanities, Education & Theology at Pacific Adventist University is seeking an experienced Lecturer to teach in the area of History. A completed MPhil or equivalent degree in History is required, while a completed PhD or equivalent degree in History is preferred. Experience in postgraduate supervision and a record of research will be highly regarded.

Level of Appointment
The appointment will be made at either Level B (Lecturer), C (Senior Lecturer), or D (Associate Professor) depending on qualifications, research output, and teaching and supervisory experience. Specific criteria are as follows:

Level B – Lecturer
1. A doctoral or masters qualification appropriate to the relevant discipline area or equivalent accreditation and standing; and
2. A record of research/creative works or professional activity relevant to the discipline area, which demonstrates a capacity to make an autonomous contribution.
3. The capacity to undertake teaching autonomously at a high standard is essential.

Level C – Senior Lecturer
1. A doctoral qualification relevant to the discipline area; or equivalent accreditation and standing.
2. A record of significant achievement relevant to the discipline area, and at a national level, in the scholarship of teaching and/or research/creative works or professional activity.
3. A record of autonomous teaching at a high standard is essential.

Level D – Associate Professor
1. A doctoral qualification relevant to the discipline area; or equivalent accreditation and standing; and
2. A record of academic achievement of national and/or international standing through outstanding contributions, including academic leadership, to the scholarship of teaching and/or research/creative works or professional activities.
3. A record of autonomous teaching at a high standard is essential.

Principal Responsibilities
1. To provide innovative, motivating and challenging teaching based on sound scholarly activity which maximises learning.
2. To work effectively with colleagues to support, produce and promote high-quality, ethical research.
3. To build a culture that balances high performance with a harmonious and constructive work environment across and within the School.
4. To promote, by influence and example, the philosophy, mission, objectives and values of the University, and integrate these into the teaching process as appropriate.
5. To demonstrate commitment to Jesus Christ and the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

1. A completed MPhil or equivalent postgraduate degree in History
2. The ability to teach a broad range of History subjects at tertiary level.
3. Demonstrated capacity to strengthen teaching, research, scholarly and professional activities and build the School’s reputation.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
6. Demonstrated commitment to Jesus Christ and the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

1. PhD or equivalent qualification.
2. A portfolio of published research.
3. Experience supervising postgraduate students.
4. Teaching experience at tertiary level.
